The magic of trowelled lime resides in the sumptuous shading between matte and gloss – the aspect is accentuated by the final coat of wax. The trowelled application of the paint crushes the lime, tightening the surface and creating isolated shiny patches. The appearance of these shiny patches is due to the flattening of the lime plaster and its pigments, which stresses the surface in certain areas.
